Notes from the field with photographs and a missive from our new contributor, Chelsea Alexandra: "A few weeks ago a friend approached me to see a show with her at Philadelphia's First Unitarian Church (Aug 28/2014). I was excited to see Joanna Gruesome and Perfect Pussy, as this was the first time that I had heard of both groups. Love Of Everything (a solo artist - Bobby Burg from Joan of Arc and Make Believe) was on first; his performance, and the sounds he created, were refreshing. I was captivated by his effortless lyrics; I was an immediate fan. Potty Mouth was up next. I was really familiar with their music, and caught myself singing along to a song or two. The amount of head banging that was done by the lead singer made for fantastic pictures. I was definitely intrigued by the rough, edgy sound, along with a twist of pop in between. The energy was overflowing through the whole set. From Potty Mouth to Joanna Gruesome, the momentum in the room was still high. I had listened to the band’s “Weird Sister” album (which I recommend you listen to RIGHT NOW) and was already falling in love with the voice of lead singer. She was charming from the moment she got on stage and sang her first note, and it wasn't just her loveable charm, but the whole band, with their silly banter and the crazy power that they had brought to the whole performance. Finally, it was time for Perfect Pussy. They came, they nailed it, and they destroyed. Meredith, the lead singer brought so much raw emotion, passion, and energy, that it felt like it would make my head spin, and explode. Their set was a whirlwind, and just as soon as they came on stage, it felt like they left it again, and were finished with their set. I was craving more from them. Overall - this show was one wild ride that I would love to do again!"
